About Baumhaus Floral Design
About Eva Seltner
With a Landscape Design and Horticultural degree from her birthplace in Germany, Eva Seltner packed her bags to travel the world, settling in Sydney where she lived for ten years. Eva started in floristry working for Alison Coates, one of Sydney‘s most revered florists and this is where she met Saskia Havekes, another up-and-coming florist. When Alison decided she’d had enough of retail, Eva and Saskia set up Grandiflora in Potts Point. Grandiflora rapidly became the pre-eminent floral design studio in Sydney with the duo and their work regularly featuring in Australia’s glossy magazines.
Natural simplicity and elegant shapes is the key
After heading across the ditch in 2000, Baumhaus Floral Design was started by Eva in 2002, initially from a retail space in Kingsland and from there to a studio where she could focus more on creating arrangements and installations for businesses, events, weddings and funerals. Eva’s style reflects her landscape design background using clusters of colour and foliage in the way that plants naturally occur. Her designs are very natural and elegant with strong use of interesting flowers, foliage, vines, seed pods and mosses to create beautifully simple and yet sophisticated arrangements. Baumhaus does not do overly symmetrical or tortured designs with cropped leaves and heavy wiring.
Digging deeper to find interesting elements
Many of the elements are sourced direct from growers, Eva’s own garden as well as a host of other garden loving contacts to ensure she has access to more unusual and interesting elements that can’t be bought from the Auckland flower market. Items like the Australian Gymea Lily, Witch-hazel, rare Orchid plants and native foliage that just can’t be sourced through the usual channels.
Experience of big occasions provides assurance
Eva has created arrangements and installations for a host of celebrities including a gala dinner for Princess Diana, Sting, Diana Ross, Tim Finn as well as weekly house flowers for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman when they were resident at their Sydney home. She has also done large scale events like table arrangements for the Ellerslie Flower Show Gala dinner with gift bunches for the winners, Air New Zealand Fashion Week and over 90 table arrangements for the Axis Media Awards dinner, as well as a string of international conferences. In the past Eva also worked as part of the Grandiflora team on various events in Sydney, Bali and Singapore.
Floristry is an art form and like any creative medium, it takes a critical eye and plenty of talent; qualities that are not easily taught or delegated. Everything that is produced by Baumhaus has Eva’s hand in it, from gift bunches to 100 table arrangements for a major event. As a customer this means consistency, presentation and reliability are guaranteed, along with a personal touch.
